Entry requirements
Applicants are required:
a) to be at least 18 years old
b) to have a standard of English, both written and spoken, equivalent to that of Cambridge FCE holders.
Format
4 week course – in February
from 14.00 p.m. to 18.00 p.m., Monday to Friday
The training is very practical and aims to bring teachers up to date on recent developments in English language teaching, including the use of video, songs and computers
They also have the opportunity to broaden their range of classroom skills, improve their own command of the English language and further their insights into the ELT area.
Teaching practice includes guided preparation of the lesson to be taught, classroom teaching techniques and observation of peers, followed by analyses, reflection and feedback. Individual and group tutorials are held to monitor and discuss progress, offer guidance and support.
The course is tailored to meet the needs of participants and any necessary change of the course format is possible.
Course content
1. Language and methodology – Input sessions to develop language awareness and to demonstrate techniques for the presentation and practice of language.
2. The principles and practical realities of planning for effective teaching; selecting and adapting materials for learning activities and tasks.
3. Teacher attitudes, beliefs and behaviours, rapport and learning styles.
4. Classroom management – Teaching skills, classroom presence and control.
5. Resources and materials – Selection, adaptation and use of commercial and non-published resources.
